Vite 8.3.5 Upgrade Checklist: Chunk Maps, Assets & CSS

Published October 31, 2026 ยท Source-linked checklist

This checklist assumes you already use the Vite 8.3 branch. It is not a migration guide from Vite 6 or 7. Review major-version requirements separately if you are crossing those boundaries.

Changes worth checking

The 8.3.5 notes cover missing chunk import maps, preload dependencies in chunk-map hashing, bundled development asset origins and handling literal percent characters in CSS URLs. They also list development environment and HMR fixes.

Suggested validation

  1. Preserve the lockfile, then use npm install --save-dev --save-exact [email protected]. Check runtime and plugin compatibility for your project.
  2. Run a production build and navigate routes that load dynamic chunks. If you enable chunk import maps, compare output and check for missing imports.
  3. With server.origin configured, inspect generated development asset URLs. Test a stylesheet containing a literal percent URL if that pattern occurs in your application.
  4. Change an imported module and confirm HMR behaviour using your actual plugin stack.

Suggested checks have not been executed on your project. A patch label and absence of a source flag do not prove compatibility. Retain the prior artifact for rollback.
